Each year, MUSE chooses a theme and key books as the basis of its educational work. “Rebuild” is the 2020-21 theme, and an accompanying book is Takei’s graphic novel, They called us enemiesa New York Times Best-selling book about his family’s experience in Japanese-American internment camps during World War II. It tells a harrowing story of his family’s uprooting and imprisonment throughout the war.
