A powerhouse of contemporary circus in the Baltics – An interview with Māra Pāvula of Riga Circus

Riga Circus, locally known as Rīgas cirks, is a center of contemporary art where different artistic disciplines – circus, theatre, dance, music and film – come together. It is also the largest circus institution in Latvia and the only one with permanent support.

As a public company, it launched a new circus development strategy in 2017. Its strategic goal is to develop professional circus art in Latvia. As a circus center of regional and international importance, Rīgas cirks has three main directions of work: artistic programs, support for artistic creation through residency programs and co-productions, and management of leisure education programs circus for children and adults. With a new CEO since January 2022 and an ongoing repertoire (which includes O’DD from the Race Horse Company!), CircusInfo Finland decided it was time to have a chat with Rīgas cirks director Māra Pāvula.
