A 5 bedroom Highland Park home with a contemporary feel has pivot doors to the back patio

This contemporary Highland Park home was custom built with a unique design feature. There are no windows at ground level on the front facade of the house.

Now, before imagining a house devoid of light, it is important to note that the back walls of the house are covered with windows and doors that let in a lot of sunlight. Listing agent Pogir of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty said this was an intentional feature as the owners wanted privacy in the design.

The house is the work of architect Mark Domiteaux and builder Robert Hopson and was built in 2019, according to listing information. Pogir said the house has a C-shaped layout that creates that sense of privacy and focuses on the backyard views. Pogir said the architect designs “concisely” with clean, clear lines throughout.

“There is no wasted space,” Pogir said.

The home has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and two half bathrooms in its 5,649 square feet.

An office and a guest bedroom are located just off the hall of the house on the first level. The main living areas of the house have an open concept design with a few notable features. The kitchen has a large island that houses the sink, cooktop, storage cabinets and counter space that provides additional dining space. Pogir said this house has a considerable degree of storage space with plenty of cabinets, cupboards and drawers throughout the house, especially in the kitchen.

“If a person likes to be organized, this is the house they should be organized in because they have closets everywhere,” Pogir said.

The living room is adjacent to the kitchen in the open concept design, and there is a bar and a wine cellar to one side which both service the space. A remarkable contemporary style fireplace sits on the other side of the living room and separates the space from the dining room. All of these rooms have views of the property through a wall of glass doors that overlook the pool and patio area. Pogir said the doors were custom designed for the house and they open on a pivot and create the opportunity to live indoors and out.

The home also features a game room, den, laundry room, and easy access to the two-car garage on the first level.

The house sits on a 0.203 acre lot. Outside there is a swimming pool, a patio and a covered outdoor living area with a grill.

The remaining four bedrooms of the house are on the second level. Pogir said the master suite takes up nearly half the square footage of the second floor. The master bedroom is flooded with natural light through a set of windows that sport a pane design similar to the pivot doors on the first floor. The bedroom is large enough to accommodate a sitting area and also has built-in storage space. The bathroom has two walk-in closets, two sinks, a walk-in shower and a freestanding bathtub.

The other three bedrooms on the second level all have an en-suite bathroom and a walk-in closet. There is also a games room and a bonus room or a small office on this level, depending on the floor plan.

The house at 4340 Fairfax Ave. is listed at $4,275,000.
